About CYRA

The Christian Youth Rodeo Association was founded in 2003 when George Steinberger called for a meeting at the Edgerton City Hall to start up the association. With the original 15 charter members and their families, the first CYRA rodeo was in Pleasanton, KS and produced by the board. The next two events were held in Gardner and Garnett, KS with Homestead Rodeo Company as the stock contractor. The final two rodeos of the year were back in Pleasanton and the first season wrapped up successfully.

George Steinberger was the organization’s first president and continued his support of CYRA youth members until his passing in 2017. Following in this tradition of service, CYRA rodeos are still proudly produced with strong leadership and a dedicated group of volunteers. The association hosts and produces close to 20 youth rodeos each year at various locations across the state of Kansas. Members range in age from 3 to 18 and compete in age-specific divisions for everything from roping to barrel racing and rough stock.

Christian Youth Rodeo Association is designated a 501c3 organization. Elected board members and youth board members manage association operations. The volunteer hours involved are too many to count and could never fully reflect the dedication and love of our CYRA families.

The CYRA is a rodeo association for youth between the ages of 3-18 and is based out of the eastern part of the state of Kansas. The name chosen for this rodeo association is the Christian Youth Rodeo Association. The organizational meeting was held at Edgerton, Ks. on January 30th, 2003. George Steinberger of Homestead Rodeo School was elected as the 1st President of the organization.
